G, codenamed "Silver Fang", is a male former agent of the American government agency AMS. He is a recurring protagonist in the main House of the Dead video game series.
It was hinted in the first game's manual that he is in fact a cyborg though the third game disproves this because of his aging (possible Sega just retconned the fact). James also notices G's blood stain in the corner of a street during the second game. For the moment, what G is is unknown but he is biological at the very least with his aging and bleeding. He also possesses a very "digital" personality in the first game, though by third game this seems to have disappeared and acts very much like an ordinary human. This may be because of experience in life or just another retcon.

  +
Known only by his pseudonym, G has battled worldwide incidents involving hostile biologically-engineered creatures. In 2003, he retired from the AMS after the collapse of civilization. He believes these events are connected to his previous assignments.

Varying depictions of G appear in the spin-off game The House of the Dead: Overkill and its Extended Cut expansion, and the 2003 film House of the Dead.
Out of all the House of The Dead characters, G is the only one to have appeared in all of the games either as a playable character or just as a cameo. These are his appearances:

On December 20th, 1998, G and his partner Thomas Rogan responded to a panicked phone call by Sophie Richards, Rogan's then-fiancée. The call led them to a mansion owned by Sophie's boss, genetic engineer Dr. Curien. G and Rogan found the mansion overrun with hostile creatures, which Curien had developed and released out of insanity.

With humanity reduced to a post-apocalyptic state, Rogan formed a secret division to continue the fight. In October 2019, Rogan went missing during a mission inside the EFI Research Facility, which was determined as the source of the apocalypse. On October 31st, G teamed with Rogan's daughter Lisa to find him.
  +
  +
Inside the facility, G and Lisa defeated Death, a giant club-wielding behemoth; Sun, a large tree-like mutant; and Fool, a massive sloth-like creature. G and Lisa found Rogan, who revealed that he was rescued by Dr. Curien's son, Daniel, who disavowed his father's crimes. G stayed behind to care for Rogan, while Lisa and Daniel partnered to defeat Wheel of Fate, a resurrected form of Curien.
  +
  +
While him and Rogan left the building, G voiced concern for the future of humanity. Rogan remained optimistic, claiming that they have "done [their] part, and that the future was left to people like Lisa and Daniel.

1991 Bayou City investigation
  +
In 1991, after graduating from the AMS academy, Special Agent G was assigned to investigate a missing persons case in Bayou City, Louisiana linked to crime lord Papa Caesar. G teamed up with Detective Isaac Washington, who swore revenge after Caesar killed his father. They were attacked by mutant undead-like creatures.
  +
  +
G and Isaac stormed Caesar's mansion; Caesar escaped, and the two defeated a disabled scientist-turned mutant, Jasper Guns. They then met Varla Guns, a stripper and Jasper's older sister who also sought revenge against Caesar. They encountered the Screamer in a mutant-infested hospital, carnies Nigel and Sebastian in a carnival, the mantis-like Crawler on a train, and the Lobber within the Louisiana swamps.
  +
  +
The pair eventually tracked Caesar to a maximum security prison, meeting its eccentric warden Clement Darling. They found Varla and Cesar strapped in electric chairs; Clement revealed that he was responsible for the outbreak. He then killed Caesar, thus robbing Isaac of his revenge. The agents defeated a mutated prison inmate Brutus the Ruthless before pursuing Darling into a secret underground laboratory.
  +
  +
Upon confronting Clement, the agents discovered that he had transplanted the brain of his ailing mother into Varla's body. Varla then grew into a towering mutant creature, which G and Isaac defeated. Clement pleaded mercy, "returning to the womb" to atone for all the problems he caused. The pair escaped in a helicopter with Varla's brain in a jar, detonating Clement's facility. They then discovered a mutant piloting the helicopter.

In the year 2000, G was sent to investigate the CEO of DBR corporation Goldman. He set up a meeting with some fellow agents in a library however Goldman released his horde of undead before they could meet. G was injured in the process and was found by James and Gary in the library they were suppose to meet where G handed James his file containing data from his investigation. This file contained the weak points of some of the bosses that James and Gary would faced and more. He probably gathered them through his investigation or by battling down these bosses himself. He also made a incomplete sketch of The Emperor, probably as a result of his investigations.

Trivia
Three years later, during the World Collapse (in House of The Dead 4 Special), G rescued Kate Green from a horde of zombies and they teamed up together to find "The Source" (it is unknown how he got across this information however) and they battle their way through the city into an underground laboratory with many farming pools for the undead. They faced a resurrected(or maybe cloned) Magician (Type 0) at the end.

  +
*Counting the rail shooter installments, G has had the largest number of playable appearances out of all characters with 4 (the original House of the Dead, The House of the Dead III, 4 Special, and Overkill). This is followed by Kate Green (4, 4 Special and Scarlet Dawn), Thomas Rogan (The House of the Dead and The House of the Dead III), and James Taylor (The House of the Dead 2 and 4).
  +
** With Kate Green in second place with 3 (4, 4 Special & Scarlet Dawn) and Rogan and Taylor joint 3rd with 2 (HOTD, 3 & 2, 4 respectively)
  +
*G is available as a costume in The House of the Dead 2s Original Mode.
  +
*G's pistol in The House of the Dead is much quieter than Rogan's, despite not having any visible suppressors or using a different cartridge. (It is possible that the sound used is from Virtua Cop, Sega's spin-off game made in 1994.)
  +
*In The House of the Deads Sega Saturn manual, Dr. Curien describes G's personality as "digital" with a "metallic" taste, alluding toward the possibility that G is a cyborg or synthetic being.
  +
*Since his debut appearance in The House of the Dead, G has made both playable and unplayable further appearances and in all following main House of the Dead games except House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.
  +
*In The House of the Dead: Overkill, it is revealed that G listens to country music.
  +
* His attire is slightly altered in The House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut. In the original Overkill, he wears wrap-around sunglasses, while in Extended Cut he wears a pair of aviators with green tinted lens.
  +
*In The House of the Dead 2, the filename for G's character is Hou, a Japanese name that translates to "country".
  +
*G is absent from the mobile game The House of the Dead: Nightmare, despite that it is an adaptation of the original House of the Dead.
  +
*G, alongside his partner Thomas Rogan, makes a cameo appearance in Zombie Revenge as an icon on Linda's computer.

In one of the House of The Dead 4 endings,G revisited the site where James sacrificed himself to defeat The World saying that he has found the Source. This scene is shown with his HoTD III model in Special (which is released after HoTD 4 and takes place only hours after), he is shown wearing his trademark suit. Sega probably retconned with Special that G was wearing his suit instead.

G's first mission after graduating from the AMS academy is to investigate the mysterious disappearance of people in Bayou City in Louisiana. He teams up with Detective Issac Washington in this installment. In this game, his overall character has changed considerably (possibly because he's in his younger days. He still wears black clothing but now sports sunglasses. His personality is more snappy and his voice sounds a little deeper.

Better be ready, Curien!

G (ジー, ?), codenamed "Silver Fang",[1] is a male former agent of the American government agency AMS. He is a recurring protagonist in the main House of the Dead video game series.

Known only by his pseudonym, G has battled worldwide incidents involving hostile biologically-engineered creatures. In 2003, he retired from the AMS after the collapse of civilization. He believes these events are connected to his previous assignments.[2]

Varying depictions of G appear in the spin-off game The House of the Dead: Overkill and its Extended Cut expansion, and the 2003 film House of the Dead.

G's nationality, birthdate, and real name are unknown.[5][6] Age-wise, he was approximately 35 to 40 years old in 1998,[5] making him around 50 in 2019.[6]

An agent of the American government agency AMS , G was devoted to his duties.[5] He had a cold and calculating personality.[6]

On December 20th, 1998, G and his partner Thomas Rogan responded to a panicked phone call by Sophie Richards, Rogan's then-fiancée. The call led them to a mansion owned by Sophie's boss, genetic engineer Dr. Curien. G and Rogan found the mansion overrun with hostile creatures, which Curien had developed and released out of insanity.[7]

G and Rogan raided the mansion, but were unable to save Sophie from being kidnapped and seemingly killed by the creatures. They battled the armored Chariot, the bat-like Hangedman, the insectoid Hermit, and ultimately Magician, who killed Curien out of disobedience.[8]

Their mission completed, G and Rogan left the Curien Mansion and bid Sophie and Curien farewell. However, Sophie miraculously survived.

G's next mission occurred on February 26th, 2000, after Curien's financier, Caleb Goldman, developed more creatures to mastermind an incident in an unnamed Italian city. Before he could meet agents James Taylor and Gary Stewart in a library, G was injured by Zeal, an imp-like humanoid.

Unable to continue further, G gave James and Gary his field journal of creature weak points.[9] Later, after the agents stopped Goldman's plans, Rogan revealed that G had survived.[10]

2003 incidents

Main article: The House of the Dead 4 Special

In 2003, the AMS foiled a posthumous plot by Goldman to launch nuclear missiles worldwide.[11] However, civilization collapsed, resulting in the AMS being dissolved.[12] G, now retired, believed that these events were connected to his previous assignments, and thus he began investigating.[6]

G and agent Kate Green partnered to fight the creature infestation back to its source. They found a contaminated laboratory and defeated a revived Magician. As they left, G told Kate that "the fight" is about to begin.[13]

Years later, G visited Goldman's headquarters where James had sacrificed himself to defeat The World, Goldman's final creation. He told James to "rest", vowing that the threat would be eliminated.[14]

2019 EFI Research Facility investigation

G and Lisa III introduction

With humanity reduced to a post-apocalyptic state, Rogan formed a secret division to continue the fight. In October 2019, Rogan went missing during a mission inside the EFI Research Facility, which was determined as the source of the apocalypse.[12] On October 31st, G teamed with Rogan's daughter Lisa to find him.[12]

While him and Rogan left the building, G voiced concern for the future of humanity. Rogan remained optimistic, claiming that they have "done [their] part, and that the future was left to people like Lisa and Daniel.[15]

The House of the Dead: Overkill canon

1991 Bayou City investigation

In 1991, after graduating from the AMS academy, Special Agent G was assigned to investigate a missing persons case in Bayou City, Louisiana linked to crime lord Papa Caesar. G teamed up with Detective Isaac Washington, who swore revenge after Caesar killed his father. They were attacked by mutant undead-like creatures.

Film canon

Isla del Morte investigation

G appears along with Rogan at the end of Uwe Boll's 2003 film, questioning Rudy Curien while a team of AMS agents arrive via helicopter to investigate the incident on Isla del Morte. In this adaptation, G is depicted as African American. He wears a black business suit with a long trench coat.

Appearance

G's appearance varies among games.

The House of the Dead: Overkill, his youngest appearance, G wears a black formal suit jacket and pants with brown shoes and a white button shirt. He is always depicted wearing purple wraparound sunglasses (switched to aviators in Extended Cut). His hair is short and dark.

In the original House of the Dead, G retains the black formal suit, but his button shirt is now blue and gains a white necktie. His sunglasses are absent.

In The House of the Dead 2, G wears a navy blue formal suit, yellow necktie, and a sky blue button shirt.

In The House of the Dead 4 Special, G wears a black formal suit and purple button shirt.

In The House of the Dead III and the fourth ending of The House of the Dead 4, G has gray hair. His formal suit jacket is replaced with a gray formal vest with matching pants, black shoes, a light blue button shirt, and a yellow necktie.

Development

GConceptArtHOD

G's concept art from The House of the Dead.

Sega AM1 named the character "G" because they wanted to make him "mysterious".[16] The name has a special meaning, and there is more to the character that has yet to be revealed.[16][17] The House of the Dead series director Takashi Oda stated that if the team ever developed a prequel to the original House of the Dead, the meaning of G's name would be an "important" part of it. He also claimed that G's frequent appearances "are not necessarily intentional".[18]

An alternate character model, named G 2, was developed originally as an AMS agent who arrived at the Curien Mansion before G and Rogan.[19][excerpt 1] The character is playable via the console-exclusive Saturn Mode and a secret code in the arcade version.

G's middle-aged appearance in The House of the Dead III was intended to inject "analog warmth" into the character, rather than "[pushing] out a digitally cold face".[20][excerpt 2] The House of the Dead III Perfect Guide described an early sketch of him as having "a wild impression".[20][excerpt 3]

His Overkill appearance was based on actor Keanu Reeves from the film Point Break.[21] He is voiced by Will Sierra, who previously auditioned for Papa Caesar and Jasper Guns. Inspired by Reeves and Rod Serling, Sierra gave G a "cool [and] subtle" approach. He was directed to not ad-lib lines. By talking to voice actors Anthony Aroya (Isaac Washington) and Sarah Connor (Varla Guns), Sierra felt that it built "a mini ‘bond’ with [his] virtual video amigos".[22]

Trivia

  • Counting the rail shooter installments, G has had the largest number of playable appearances out of all characters with 4 (the original House of the Dead, The House of the Dead III, 4 Special, and Overkill). This is followed by Kate Green (4, 4 Special and Scarlet Dawn), Thomas Rogan (The House of the Dead and The House of the Dead III), and James Taylor (The House of the Dead 2 and 4).
    • With Kate Green in second place with 3 (4, 4 Special & Scarlet Dawn) and Rogan and Taylor joint 3rd with 2 (HOTD, 3 & 2, 4 respectively)
  • G is available as a costume in The House of the Dead 2's Original Mode.
  • G's pistol in The House of the Dead is much quieter than Rogan's, despite not having any visible suppressors or using a different cartridge. (It is possible that the sound used is from Virtua Cop, Sega's spin-off game made in 1994.)
  • In The House of the Dead's Sega Saturn manual, Dr. Curien describes G's personality as "digital" with a "metallic" taste, alluding toward the possibility that G is a cyborg or synthetic being.
  • Since his debut appearance in The House of the Dead, G has made both playable and unplayable further appearances and in all following main House of the Dead games except House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn.
  • In The House of the Dead: Overkill, it is revealed that G listens to country music.
  • His attire is slightly altered in The House of the Dead: Overkill Extended Cut. In the original Overkill, he wears wrap-around sunglasses, while in Extended Cut he wears a pair of aviators with green tinted lens.
  • In The House of the Dead 2, the filename for G's character is Hou, a Japanese name that translates to "country".
  • G is absent from the mobile game The House of the Dead: Nightmare, despite that it is an adaptation of the original House of the Dead.
  • G, alongside his partner Thomas Rogan, makes a cameo appearance in Zombie Revenge as an icon on Linda's computer.
