Mother (母, Haha) is the final boss and antagonist in The House of the Dead: Overkill.

Story

Mother is first introduced during Jailhouse Judgment. She is the mother of Clement Darling, and the two have an incestuous relationship with one another. During Mother's introduction, Clement reveals that she is dying at a rapid rate, and he plans to use Varla Guns and the compound underneath the prison to give her new life. The two then disappear, leaving G and Isaac Washington to deal with Brutus.

Mother is then seen during the next and final chapter of the game, titled Overkill. She is also in a picture on the wall in Clement's office in Jailhouse Judgement. During this chapter, Mother's brain has been successfully transplanted to Varla's body. She uses Varla's body to come on to G and Isaac, but is stopped once Clement appears from the shadows and scolds her. Once Mother turns around, the two detectives notice her exposed brain, and they realize that it is not really Varla. Isaac then threatens Mother and she uses her powers to knock G and Isaac back.

After attacking the detectives, Mother drops to her knees and starts spewing acid and growing an inhumanly long tongue. Clement becomes distraught at this sight, and he realizes that his formula has failed. G and Issac then take this opportunity to blast Mother into the compound below. However, Mother emerges as a giant mutant and, after a short cutscene, the final battle of the game takes place.

Bestiary Overview

The mutation turned her into a tall slim beast with her tongue protruding out of her mouth, flesh bumps which could be her hair was and a tube-like part that releases mutants. The tube feature might be similar to how babies were from and escape from their human mother's womb hence why she is called the Mother, although, it folds up similar to a female crab's apron.

Tactics

During the battle, the players are armed with mini-guns that they conveniently found in a "missing reel" during which they believed they had beaten Mother. Mother's weak point is her head (Although in the Extended Cut, her vulnerability is said to be unknown) and her primary attack is to flick barrels at the players, although she can also attack with a swipe if allowed to get too close (stomping the opponent with her feet in the Extended Cut). She can also attack her opponents with her giant tongue, throw 3 barrels with her right arm and throw giant slabs of concrete with her left arm.

In the last part of the battle, after 1/5 of her health is left, Mother will flick the players, knocking them unconscious. After you come to, you must continuously fire at Mother while she sends multiple bloated mutants to attack you by running up to you and exploding. When killed, these mutants will burst and release acid, which will hurt the player(s) if it gets too close.

After the Battle

At the end of the battle, Mother collapses in a defeated heap while Clement mourns her death. His last request is to be allowed to return to her womb. G and Isaac do nothing to stop him as he proceeds to crawl into Mother's giant vagina. Shortly after, G and Isaac escape as the facility self-destructs. Unlike previous final bosses, Mother's weak point is revealed.(i.e:the head)

• Even though Mother's weak point isn't revealed in the Extended Cut, you can shoot her breasts to repel her attack.

Directors Cut Tactics

In the Directors Cut you get to see what was in the missing reel which includes picking up the mini-guns and the mother chasing you in a tunnel. It's not exactly revealed as what to do after stopping the mother's attack, however it should be apparent that you need to attack the two red pillars holding up the tunnel.

Trivia

• Mother is the first final boss in the series (the other being the Moon from House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn that does not explode.
• During Mother's boss fight in Typing of the Dead: Overkill, the player is prompted to type "like a motherfucker"; in other words, they must type words associated with key topics (including characters and enemies).
