Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (ソニック＆セガアルスターレーシング, Sonikku& segaarusutārēshingu) is a kart racing video game developed by Sumo Digital and released by Sega on February 23rd, 2010 for the Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, and Windows PC.
The game features characters and settings inspired by popular Sega franchises, including The House of the Dead, which is represented by a Curien Mansion-themed racetrack and Loving Deads: The House of the Dead EX protagonists Zobio and Zobiko being playable characters.
Development of The House of the Dead content
According to producer Steve Lycett, Sumo Digital included The House of the Dead in the game because they felt it was one of Sega's most "iconic" intellectual properties. Several characters, creatures, and bosses were considered to appear, but most were excluded so as to not increase All-Stars Racing's age rating.
While meeting the House of the Dead team in Japan, Sumo Digital saw a work-in-progress version of Loving Deads: The House of the Dead EX. They "fell in love" with its cartoony art style, which they thought fit in with All-Stars Racing's family-friendly look, and ultimately chose it to represent the franchise.
Because EX was still in development, Zobiko's English voice acting was unavailable; thus, the character was reduced to a non-speaking role with only Zobio having lines.
