The House of Dead (死者の家, Shisha no ie ) is an incomplete, prototype version of the 1996 rail shooting arcade game The House of the Dead. The ROM was submitted to MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) on September 6, 2018.[1] It is currently unknown when the prototype was originally created.
The prototype only has two of the four levels, along with audio and visual elements that were changed or removed in the final release.

Prototype | Final | Description |

The prototype's introduction is less elaborate than the final version's; the camera slowly pans to the Curien Mansion and travels to the front door, where a creature (Sam) swipes the screen. The final introduction shows more characters and creatures, and also has sound effects and dialogue.
As previously mentioned, the prototype was named The House of Dead instead of The House of the Dead. In addition, its logo lacked the creature hand and Thomas Rogan's silhouette.
In the prototype's game rules attract screen, the DBR researcher and the Cyril creature have different and slower walk animations, making the scene run longer. Cyril also lacks an idle animation, as he is completely still when the camera focuses on him. |
