The House of the Dead is a media franchise directed by Takashi Oda and owned by the Japanese video game company Sega. The franchise consists of survival horror rail shooters, live-action films, and merchandise. Plotlines feature incidents involving hostile biologically-engineered creatures, and the AMS government organization's efforts to neutralize them.
The first game, The House of the Dead, was released to arcades in September of 1996. The franchise has since expanded into multiple sequels and spin-offs.
Premise
The franchise involves the creation of hostile biologically-engineered lifeforms by scientists, bioterrorists, and other shadowy entities, who then mastermind incidents for varying reasons. Opposing them are human survivors, most commonly agents of a government organization known as AMS.
