The House of the Dead Sub-Story NEW TRANSLATION, COMPLETE

Translated by Choek “Gil” and SantanaSociety

What you are reading below is a translation of a work that had previously received similar treatment; however, it remained inaccessible for many English readers due to grammatical and spelling errors, redundancies, and conflictions. Japanese, bearing no relation to the Indo-European branch of languages whatsoever, is difficult to translate over into standard English. I was lucky enough to bear an acquaintance with a wonderful individual who speaks Japanese as fluently as he does his own language, that being Cantonese. He labored for many hours over this document before turning it over to me for standard English conversion. I felt that I had the fun part. I was like a folklorist weaving a story from the raw, non-sifted material. In the end, this was a team effort, and I am wholly thankful that I was able to partake.

I would like to thank Web of the Dead creator Kori-Maru for exposing me to the sub-story, bureaucrat and Wiki of the Dead admin Multibrawlr for his unending patience and determination, and to the HOTD community for their enthusiasm and support.

Any mistakes within the translation below are our own.

Below are excerpts from the notes of Agent Thomas Rogan.

Dr. Curien’s Case Study

Dr. Curien was attempting to obtain the power to bind God. A score[1] ago, mankind had already begun to reproduce, or; make copies of matter. He had also originally planned to create life in copies of itself by scientifically mutating and creating organisms, which is deemed unethical. His main goal was to produce a creature that contained the very life he was seeking. He first gained the idea to do so by his employer, the DBR Corporation. Dr. Curien secretly pursued the idea, but the research was made known by the government, and his position as the director of the DBR Corp. was harshly dismissed. Even after dismissal, Dr. Curien furtively [2] continued his research in his laboratories to create creatures, until his son, Daniel Curien, died from the dire circumstances of an unexplained illness. With the sudden removal of hisnotable position at the DBR and the passing of his son, Dr. Curien fell into deep depression. It was then the purpose of his research changed from creating lifeforms to imitate human life to “producing creatures that stood above the human race.” With hatred and revenge for humankind, Dr. Curien began his research. [3]

It was a synthetic monikered TYPE 00[sic], or; “The Magician”, that became the first being to bear a deity-like prowess, despite never being completed. Although created to follow the orders of the Doctor, the being’s program was secretly changed by a mysterious man.

This shadowy individual seems to have encountered Dr. Curien after his forced resignation. Like the Doctor, he seems to also be researching into creating higher forms of life. I do not exactly know the purpose of this man’s work, but apparently, it seems that this man's creatures are being created for another purpose outside merely standing above humans. This mysterious person, who never appeared in the incident at the Curien residence, is rumored to have been the one who kidnapped researchers for Curien’s work.

DBR Corporation

The DNA Bio-Reactor Corporation is an institute for biological research, mainly for genetics and DNA reconstruction. It is a governmental research institute, and although its activities are partially disclosed, many of them are classified. In addition, the research process is being reported to government agencies.

DBR Corp. Researches

This mainly focuses on the DNA BioReactor. There are various branches of research concerned, but for example, there have been interventions in unknown fields such as “cataloging of human genomes”, “proof of biological determinism”, “intervention of the DNA somatic cell”, and “system of existence of acquired RNA”. There are many others. The incident at Dr. Curien’s residence was the kidnapping and forced work of employees to further his own research; the ultimate tragedy being many of them attacked by the Doctor’s creations when he was driven to madness.

Footnotes

[1] 20 years

[2] In secrecy

[3] This part of the original document included several references to Dr. Curien’s hatred for humanity. When translating the document from broken English, it was truncated for the sake of readability.
